About The Italian Serenaders
The Italian Serenaders are a unique, diverse and versatile group of entertainers comprised of professional and gifted individuals mainly from the Merrimack Valley. They are dedicated to propagate the Italian heritage through timeless songs that have captured the entire world, throughout the ages.
Formed in 1975, as part of the bicentennial celebration, the group was catapulted into success and decades later, continue to enjoy the accolades of not just ethnic but wider audiences of all ages and ethnicities.
The Serenaders have performed in the Sorrento, Rome and Sicily regions of Italy and have appeared in many parades over the years including Washington ,D.C., Gloucester, Andover, Lawrence, Haverhill, East Boston, Massachusetts, and New London, New Hampshire to name a few. They have performed at Bayside Exposition Center and City Hall Plaza, Boston ; The Collins Center and Country Club in Andover; The Sheraton Tara, Danvers; Poland Springs, Maine; Northern Essex Community College Haverhill; Zumix Productions in East Boston and Maudslay Arts Center, Newburyport Massachusetts.
The Serenaders have also been featured at St. Anthony’s and St. Joseph’s feasts in Boston, and the feast of The Three Saints in Lawrence, MA. They have also performed in Worcester, Pittsfield and multicultural events in Everett and Peabody, MA. and Providence, R.I. They have also performed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, multiple times.
They have entertained at many ethnic events such as the Columbus Day Breakfast, anniversaries, birthdays and other special events. They also have visited area nursing homes and hospitals.
As of this writing, the present director holds a Masters Degree in music education and several certificates in choral conducting and is well known as a vocal coach.
Other members includes a graduate of the New England and Puerto Rican Conservatories of music, doing a stint in the Boston Opera House, another member played guitar and sang professionally, and other members were selected because of their natural and native abilities to sing and perform.
They have also been mentioned in a book titled “My Way” by Coach Larry Felloni, wherein they sang to a patient who was in a coma, at the request of a relative and the patient was awakened as a result. The book
It’s been said that, after viewing a performance by the Serenaders, the foot tapping and humming of tunes continue long after.
